Trip Log Page 3:
We got in the car and just started driving south on Hwy 89, not sure where we were going next. We ended up in Great Falls, Montana. That is where Margo was born. We drove by the hospital where she was born, and the house that she first lived in. We got to bed early (about10pm). By now that seemed early! Friday, we left Great Falls after breakfast heading south to Yellowstone Nat. Park and Grand Tetons Nat. Park. We could have spent many days in the park, but we only had the day. The wildlife and the countryside were both spectacular. We saw long horned mountain sheep, elk, deer, eagles, hawks, big bison, a beautiful moose and her precious baby. We even saw a beaver and wild turkeys and several very graceful swans. We also saw Old Faithful, many waterfalls, and several lush green valleys. We spent the night in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Got up early to drive back to the Grand Tetons to capture on film the sun rising on the snow covered mountains. We took our time taking pictures and enjoying nature. We sat in the back of the van drinking our coffee, and just listening to the wonderful sounds of nature. We pulled out of Jackson about 10am and started on our way to visit Aunt June and Uncle Leland, my mother's oldest and dearest friends. (Aunt June - this is not to imply that you or Uncle Leland are old.) Again we stayed on Hwy 89 the whole way. Star Valley was truly beautiful. We followed the Logan River into Logan Canyon and through Brigham City on into Willard. We woke Aunt June and Uncle Leland from their Siesta when we arrived. We gathered around their kitchen table while Aunt June fixed dinner. We had homemade lasagna, salad, vegies, and ice cream for dinner. It really felt like we were at home. Dave and I crashed early. We were up again by 6am. Ate breakfast (even homemade apricot jam from Aunt June's tree in the yard) and said our good-byes and headed south on Hwy.15 We were now on the last leg of the journey, so we figured we'd end it with a bang. On to Las Vegas! We arrived about 2pm to find the hotels packed. We finally were in a room at the Mirage over looking the strip by around 5pm. We went for a swim in the lovely pool, went back to the room to change, walked for awhile on the Strip, came back to the room and fell asleep. We were both so tired, we didn't even gamble. We left early the next morning (now Tuesday) and headed for home. Home Sweet Home. We'd been on the road for twelve days, driven through two countries, two providence's in Canada, and nine states in the USA. It's always so good to go on vacation and see friends and family. It really meant so much to Dave and I to see and spend time with you all, and to have everybody be so gracious. We both love you and thank you from the bottoms of our hearts. |
