Trip Log Page 2:
through the corner of Idaho. We drove through forests, into desert areas, then through a huge valley full of all different crops. We arrived at Bobbi's (Margo's cousin) and Mark's home at 8:30pm. We walked through some of their property and they showed us where they would like to build their dream home. We stayed in their newly remodeled home. Mark and Bobbi and Dave and I stayed up 'til 1:30am having a few glasses of wine and catching up. The next morning we were all awakened by a loud clap of thunder, which got us all up early. Bobbi fixed us all a great breakfast. We were off for a quick visit to see the horses, Toby and Fireball. What a couple of beauties. Then we raced back to Bobbi and Mark's house to shower, pack and leave for Carol (Margo's other cousin) and Jim's home. We were hour late getting to Carol's but we had plenty of excuses. Bobbi had told Carol the night before that I had platinum blond hair and to "be prepared" because it was quite a shock. I arrived at Carol's in this ghastly platinum blond wig I had brought from home (something of a cross between Carol Channing and Dolly Parton). Well we walked into greet Carol. Bobbi and I could hardly contain ourselves! After we greeted Jim and their son Jay I couldn't keep up the charade and pulled off the wig. Gotcha Carol! Carol and Jim had a lovely lunch prepared for us. We dined out on the balcony overlooking their own lake on 400 acres. What a lovely home, Carol has decorated it beautifully, down to the smallest detail. After a great visit with Jim and Carol, their daughter Jennifer, and their son Jay, and, of course Bobbi and Mark, we had to go. Getting back in the van we drove 2 miles before crossing the Canadian border. We made it through with Denise's dress no problem. We arrived in Calgary, Canada at 8pm Sunday. Denise had left us a hospitality package on the front porch with a note, but to our delight David and Denise were both home. We had a nice chat and Denise made us Margarita's and snacks. We sat in the lower garden around the firepit until we just couldn't stay up any longer-about 1am. For those of you who know us well, you know that these late hours are not our usual thing. It stayed light so much longer the further north we went, it just seemed right. David and Denise (our Canadian friends we had met in Hawaii) both had to work the next day so Dave and I drove into downtown Calgary and toured the city. We visited David's office and the Plus15, a covered system 15meters above ground connecting the buildings of the downtown area of the city. During the harsh 40o below winters you can walk the city in these covered walkways in short sleeves. We all reconnected for dinner. Denise and Dave barbecued, I finally got my Calgary steaks. YUM!! What a dinner, Denise really knocked herself out. After dinner, David took us to hear his singing group practice. What a treat. We took movies and pictures, and applauded after each number. I'm sure we embarrassed David to no end. The next day we went to Heritage Park - a 1910 restored village. We drove south to Okonois and went antique hunting. Next day the 4 of us drove to picturesque Banff . We had a cocktail at the Banff Springs Hotel, which over looked the beautiful valley. We hurried back for our evening at the "Stampede". We saw our first "Chucks" ever. We stayed for the nightly show, Light up the Night, performed by the Young Canadians, very much like our Young Americans, saw the fireworks display and headed for home with David and Denise. Good-byes were said to our dear Canadian friends. |
